Here is the step-by-step info on how to add a Pocket Shop widget to the sidebar on your self-hosted WordPress blog.
- Sign into your blog admin section, so you're viewing the WordPress dashboard.
- Click Appearance> Widgets in the top menu.
- In the Available Widgets menu that appears, click Add for the "Text: Arbitrary text or HTML" widget.
- Paste the code supplied on the Craft Cult Get a Widget page into the large text area. You may also enter an title which will appear above the widget on your blog.
- Underneath the code entry area, select which sidebar you'd like to the widget to appear in, and choose the position in the drop down.
- Click the Save Widget button. The widget will now be live on your site.
Thank you so much for making this available to us! I -heart- CraftCult!
ReplyDeleteI would love a static widget so I could put it up on my Wordpress.com hosted blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the widget... One question though, when I go to put it in my wordpress blog, I paste the code, hit save, then the code disappears, and nothing is in my shop... Has this happened to anyone else? It is not a wordpress.com blog...
ReplyDeleteCould you please tell me if I can use the widget on Facebook?
ReplyDeleteHi ephkay - unfortunately, Facebook doesn't allow anything of this sort. They are phasing out apps/widgets that go on the side, and from now on all Facebook apps must live in their own full tab.
ReplyDeletehearttreehome - what version of Wordpress are you using? I didn't have that issue on our test blog, of course. Perhaps other people have experiences this and can help out.
I'd love to have this widget on my Wordpress blog, but am having the same problem as hearttreehome - the code disappears when I hit save. It's a self-hosted Wordpress blog, so I'm a little perplexed.
ReplyDeleteskinnylaminx, can you please describe what you mean by that - the code just isn't shown, disappears out of the box? I'll test on the WP blog I have access to this weekend if I can. Also please do let me know what version of WP you're using.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens when you try to install another widget that works the same way, the JS version of the Etsy mini for instance?
Unfortunately, I am also having the same problem. I suppose I am on Wordpress.com, instead of .org.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! Thanks so much for making this available.
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to change the size of the widget? I have a 3-column blog and my shop widget is just a tad too wide. I'd love to be able to make it work.
ReplyDeleteEven if there's no way to size it, is there a way to center the script code. I've tried putting it in div tags and aligning it that way. I've even tried plain old center tags, but neither works. Can it not be centered?
ReplyDeleteHi TLC,
ReplyDeleteThere's not a way to change the size of the widget, since it's entirely graphical.
Centering it should work fine. The widget script creates an iframe, which can be placed just like any other element. If you enclose the script in a div element, applying a margin to the div should allow you to place it where you want.
It didn't work for me either… I have the same issue as hearttreehome.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is having a problem with installing WordPress, please let me know the version of WordPress you're using. I'll see if I can test it on that version specifically and suggest a solution.
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem. The title shows up, but the code disappears. How can I tell which Wordpress version I have?
ReplyDeleteDid anyone here ever get an answer to this problem?
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteYou can find the version in your Admin Dashboard in WordPress. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and it will say the version in the lower right.
I assume that the people having issues with this are using v. 3, perhaps 3.04. The above instructions were written for and test in V. 2.9.2.
While I'm sure it's possible to install this widget on WordPress 3, there are probably some differences. I'll find an installation of the newest WordPress and add to the directions.
Thanks for getting back to me.
ReplyDeleteThe lower right on mine says - Theme: Twenty Ten Blog at WordPress.com.
Others have said that I have to have Wordpress.org. It will not work on Wordpress.com. Is this the problem?
Yes, our Treasury widget uses JavaScript and therefore will not work on WordPress.com blogs.
ReplyDeleteSince it's a community site, Wordpress.com doesn't allow JavaScript for security purposes (basically, to keep things simple for Wordpress). This isn't a restriction present on stand-alone blogs hosted using Wordpress software.
Yes I can see Treasury Widget is not working on WordPress.org. Any ways, What I think that "Pocket Shop" Widget is one of incredible widget for WordPress.org. Must try it :)
ReplyDeletecomment system
My sidebar is only 150px & the right side of the widget is cut off.
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to fix this?
I really love the look of the widget otherwise :)
